What Can We Expect with the New 2018 Kia Sportage Facelift?

Like most manufacturers do at some stage, Kia have decided it’s time for a revamp of their superbly successful Sportage. With the introduction of a few subtle design tweaks, new technology and all-new powertrains, including a 48-volt mild hybrid, Kia have certainly done their best to improve on what was already their biggest seller in Britain without over-doing it.

With it expected to hit showrooms later on this Summer with a starting price of around £20,000 we thought we’d take you through what you can expect to see on the New 2018 Kia Sportage.

New 2018 Kia Sportage: Design Changes

Kia have made subtle design changes all over the exterior of the new Sportage including new front and rear bumpers, new headlights and an all-new taillight setup which features a full-width LED lighting bar that stretches across the full length of the tailgate. You can also anticipate a set of newly designed alloy wheel options available in 16, 17 and 19 inch sizes. There will also be five new exterior body paint colours to choose from. The GT-Line spec has been spoilt the most as it comes with a gloss black grille, more aggressive bodywork, lashings of chrome in the sills and also twin exhaust pipes.

On the inside you’ll find a new steering wheel and sitting directly beyond that a refreshed instrument cluster. You’ll also find a newly designed two-tone quality leather upholstery scheme throughout the cabin, but this only comes as an option and not as standard.

New 2018 Kia Sportage: Engines & Performance

The most significant update to the 2018 Sportage comes in the form of a new 48v mild hybrid system that spearheads a renewed engine line-up. There will be a new EcoDynamics+ 2.0-litre diesel that is assisted by a 48v battery system that supplements acceleration and also powers a starter generator unit, which means that CO2 emissions are reduced and fuel is saved. This replaces the 2.0-litre CRDi option.

The current 1.7-litre CRDi diesel engine is also to be replaced by a newer 1.6-litre unit that will have a choice of either 113bhp or 134bhp. The higher powered option is available with all-wheel-drive and a seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. The 1.6-litre GDi petrol engines will go unchanged and will continue to go on sale in compliance of the Euro 6D emissions standards.

New 2018 Kia Sportage: Tech

New tech comes in the form of an upgraded adaptive cruise control system that has a stop and go function integrated. There will also be a 360-degree camera setup so you’ll have a convertible style all-round view. For even more safety Kia have added a new driver attention warning system. You’ll find a new infotainment display system too that has a floating eight-inch screen.
