Thinking of selling your current car
You can use the form at the bottom of this page to request a valuation of your vehicle. This form will be sent to a member of the Dicksons team who will carry out the valuation and get back in touch with you, giving you a more realistic appraisal than an automated system.
Please note: any valuation issued via this website does not constitute an offer to buy your vehicle, which would require a physical inspection of the vehicle.
Your contact details will only be used for the purposes of processing this valuation request and getting back in touch with you, as per our privacy policy.

How do I get a valuation for my car at Dicksons?
Dicksons of Inverness offers three convenient valuation methods. Use our free online valuation tool for an instant estimate by entering your registration number. You can also call us to discuss your vehicle over the phone and receive an initial indication.
The other option is to visit our Telford Retail Park showroom for a comprehensive inspection and formal written valuation.

How accurate are online car valuations?
Online car valuations at Dicksons provide helpful starting estimates based on your vehicle's make, model, age, and mileage.
The actual value of your vehicle depends on additional factors, including overall condition and cleanliness, full service history and documentation, tyre condition and remaining tread depth, any cosmetic damage or mechanical issues, market demand for your specific model and specification, and whether you're selling privately or part-exchanging.
For the most accurate valuation reflecting your vehicle's true condition, we recommend visiting our Inverness showroom for a physical inspection by our experienced team.

What affects my car's valuation?
Multiple factors influence your vehicle's value at Dicksons. Positive factors include a comprehensive service history showing regular maintenance, low mileage relative to age, good overall condition inside and out, desirable specification and optional extras, strong market demand for the model, and a recent MOT with no advisories.
Negative factors include lack of service history or missed services, high mileage or uneven wear, cosmetic damage, scratches, or interior stains, mechanical faults or warning lights, and outstanding finance. Our valuations consider all these elements to provide fair market value.
-
Can I get a valuation if my car is still on finance?
Yes, Dicksons of Inverness can value vehicles with outstanding finance. We'll assess your car's market value using our standard process, then establish the outstanding settlement figure from your finance company and calculate your equity position (positive or negative).
If you have positive equity (this means the car is worth more than the settlement), this can be used towards your next vehicle. If you're in negative equity (when the settlement exceeds the value), we can often incorporate this into your new finance agreement. Our team handles all communication with your existing lender, making the process straightforward.

How long is a car valuation valid for?
Online instant valuations from Dicksons reflect current market conditions and should be used as immediate guides only, as values can fluctuate with market demand. Formal written valuations provided after physical inspection at our Inverness showroom are typically valid for seven days, giving you time to consider your options without pressure.
If you're planning to sell or part-exchange in the future, we recommend obtaining a fresh valuation closer to your intended transaction date to ensure accuracy based on current market conditions. The Highland used car market can vary seasonally, affecting values particularly around registration plate changes in March and September.
